It is surprising that quilting and I found each other. I knew how to sew since my 20's, but had never been a fan. My sister made a quilt for me in about 2004 out of Aboriginal style materials that I had purchased. After frequent laundering, the quilt did not hold up. I decided to replicate the quilt since I still had more fabric. My other sister gave me basic information about how to piece a quilt top, and I set out to make an exact replica. I was hoping that the sister who made the quilt wouldn't notice that it was not the same one! I took the finished quilt top to a professional long armer with the instruction that it had to be "Stitch in the Ditch", as that was how my sister had quilted the original; that was in early 2008. My sister died suddenly, without knowing the role she had played in starting me on my quilting path. I say that even though I tried to trick her by creating a replica of her quilt, she pulled one on me by sparking my life's passion.
Hi! My name is Gina Boyd. I live near Sacramento, CA, with my husband and our dog. I began piecing quilts in 2008 and began long arm quilting in 2010 when I purchased my first machine. I added a computer to it in the following year. In the summer of 2015, I upgraded to a Gammill with a Statler Stitcher. It is a thing of beauty, and with my prior experience, it was not too long before I was very adept on the machine.
I have won prizes at the State and local county fairs and have had quilts accepted into national quilt conferences. I was honored to have one of my quilts published in the 2015 Quilt Con magazine!
